Automatic Update is not working on my MacBook Pro

Yesterday I had an indicator of an available "Software Update" on my MacBook Pro 14 inch 2021. Automatic Update is turned on. I clicked Update Tonight and entered my passcode. This morning I opened my MacBook and it was not updated but a window was opened asking for my passcode. Again. It seems Auto Update almost never works. Am I the only one?

Double check your Software Update settings.

Also if the Mac is put into Sleep Mode or going into Automatic Computer Sleep Mode, then all bets are off.

I love (not) people who advise checking your update settings. This is one of those things that never seems to work. Even if, after I get the notification for an update, select tonight, and enter my password, AND remember to leave my MBA open and plugged in, I always get a message that the update couldn't be installed. This has been going on for years. My iPhone updates just fine overnight. My MBA, never. Ever. You just have to do it manually, and curse.
