MacOS natural scrolling issue for trackpad and mouse
For eons (it seems) people have been asking for Apple to allow for separate settings for mouse and trackpad when it comes to natural scrolling. As it is (in April 2024), this issue remains unresolved, so you set natural scrolling for one, it's automatically set the same way for the other. I have no idea what is going on in Apple's mind, but they still haven't fixed it. I'm guessing they won't, even though a number of people (myself included) have sent apple feedback asking for this feature request. You can also do so via this page: Product Feedback - Apple
In the meantime, people have found 3rd party workarounds, like an app called scrollreverser. They say that those do work. I also want to offer another way of doing this without 3rd party apps, but with a 3rd party gadget, which most of use anyway.
This involves buying a logitech mouse that works with the "logi options+" software. Any mouse that has settings that can be set with this software, will allow you to change the direction of the scroll wheel to your desire (do check with the manufacturer first though, don't just listen to me).
So you set up in MacOS the trackpad to the natural scrolling position you want (usually, "follow my fingers") and this will apply for the mouse as well, but then you go and change the mouse direction through the logi options+ software and your problem is solved.
I use the MX Anywhere mouse (I imagine it will also work with MX Master mouse, which is even more expensive) and it all works as I say above. This is an expensive mouse indeed, but it's also a brilliant gadget, that has worked flawlessly for the past year I've been using it. Aside from it not playing so well on glass (unless the glass is crystal clean), it's a good choice in 2024.
Hope this helps someone. Let me know if it does or doesn't.
Disclaimer: I'm just a fellow user, not an engineer, or a logitech seller, or even extremely tech savvy. I'm just offering another solution.
