how to automatically delete 2 factor authentication messages ?

A typical 2FA text message says "your code is 123456 and it will expire in 10 minutes".

I get a bunch of these messages so once a week I spend a minute or two deleting all those expired messages.

After several years this is beginning to be annoying.

Does IOS 17 have anyway to automatic this cleanup?

Go to Settings > Passwords > Password Options. Check for the option to Cleanup Automatically or on the Mac it is called Delete After Use. The section you are looking for in this Support Article is "Automatically delete one-time verification codes"

Ideally the iphone would include an option that would automatically delete a 2fa message as soon as I "read and close" it.

That option sounded promising, but it does not work in my situation.

I use my Window 11 computer to access the bank websites. They send the 2fa 6 digit code to my iphone, where I read and close it. I then type the code into the W11 computer. In other words, the iPhone cannot see that I have used the phone, so the desired cleanup will not occur unless the entire session occurs on the iPhone.

I think I am out of luck.
