menu bar disappeared

I was trying to change some settings and found that the menu bar has disappeared and I cannot see how to restore it.

If you're referring to the macOS system menu bar, you might have changed settings in System Settings. To change these settings, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Control Center in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Then change Automatically hide and show the menu bar to Always. See Change Control Center settings on Mac - Apple Support and What’s in the menu bar on Mac? - Apple Support.
