I set my left option key as Mission Control a long time ago and now I need to change it. The issue is when I go to my keyboard shortcuts, my mission control is set as control and up arrow. Control up arrow does prompt mission control but I need to change my left option key from prompting mission control.
Can anyone help me solve it?

Change it to something else, do a test and change it back to control + up arrow (or whatever you prefer.) This may sound silly but sometimes the settings get "stuck."
Indeed, the path I gave you was for macOS High Sierra 10.13 (which was indicated in the question.) In macOS Sonoma, go to System Settings > Desktop & Dock, click the Shortcuts button at the bottom of the page to find the setting:
Open System Preferences, click Mission Control and change the shortcut key in the section "Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts."
Running on Sonoma 14.1 . This is what my keyboard shortcut Mission Control looks like. It is not set as left option key. Where else would this be?
The command for mission control here is still control up. It is not listed as left option key. Do you have anything else we can try?
