Make changes to Screenshot setting
Shift Command 5
Take screenshots or screen recordings on Mac - Apple Support
note:
many third party backup/sync apps have settings that can usurp screen shot
ex. Dropbox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive, BackBlaze etc... as well as iCloud Drive

Are you able to open the screenshot app? Is it in the Applications/Utilities folder, where it should be? Does it open but it won't take a picture? Or does it take a picture but you can't find it? Or something else? More details would help.
Changing the settings helped, thanks!

Good computing Y_321 .
Once I have my settings where I want them, I strictly use the Shift Command 3 or 4 for easy of use.
