Same Airpods, different case.

So my Airpod case was stolen and I've been without a case for a while until my friend gave me theirs. It connected the first time I tried and both the airpods and case were charged sufficiently. However, when I tried to connect to them again it wouldn't work. I tried and tried until I forgot the device on my phone hoping to pair to them easily. When I try to pair I get the "not your airpods" message and it tells me to connect. The problem lies after that when it says to press and hold the button but I've been holding it for minutes with no change. There also appears to be no white light any time I try to pair or reset. What is the problem?

Re: Same Airpods, different case : What is the problem?

Thank you for describing the situation!

Seems you have not yet "set up" the AirPods after adding the replacement case:

See Apple Support's article below for the steps to follow on how to:

Set up your replacement AirPods or charging case - Apple Support

Hope this works for you :-)

Re: "I tried the solution you provided but when I opened the case it was green.

Do I just leave it on charge until it goes orange".

As things seem to be not working as one would expect using the correct method, maybe do some more checking (see below)

Re: "I’m using the AirPod A1938 model"

Wondering which AirPods model are you using with the A1938 case ... ie: are the AirPods and the case a compatible combination.

Eg: Identify your AirPods - Apple Support

says: A1938 model case:

✽ works with AirPods (2nd generation) and AirPods (1st generation)

✽ the serial number is on the underside of the lid.

✽ You can check if the case is genuine, or generates an error message online:

Enter serial number: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

Re: "When I try to pair I get the "not your airpods" message"

✽ Has the previous owner of the case removed it from their Apple ID:

(AirPods can be paired with only one Apple ID at a time.)

Hi, thanks for responding!

so another thing I’ve failed to mention is that the only light on the case is green. It goes orange when I connect a charging cable but other than that nothing. It does not blink any of the colours and I’ve yet to see the white light.

I tried the solution you provided but when I opened the case it was green. Do I just leave it on charge until it goes orange.

Another thing I haven’t mentioned is that I’m using the AirPod A1938 model, which has the light on the outside of the case
