“This accessory is not supported by this device” pop up on iPad Pro regarding smart keyboard

This issue has persisted for me over the past 6 months, gradually increasing in frequency and annoyance. Initially, it occurred infrequently, so I brushed it off. However, in the last 6 months, it has become significantly bothersome. The situation reached a point of embarrassment when I couldn't use my iPad with a client due to keyboard issues. Despite researching and following recommended solutions such as cleaning magnets and updating software, the problem persisted.

Customer support advised taking it to an Apple Store, but living in the Baja California peninsula for half the year, the nearest store is a 5-hour journey away in the US. Frustrated, I continued to use my iPad, resorting to quick fixes like restarting or detaching/reattaching the keyboard.

One time while detaching the keyboard the iPad slipped and fell on the floor and now I have a cracked screen with tiny little shards of glass on the surface. I am VERY VERY ******. This is an expensive piece of gear and one that I rely on and use a lot for my work. I’m wondering if anybody else out there have had any similar experiences?

See >>> If you see an ‘Accessory may not be supported’ alert - Apple Support

If you are using a Smart (folio) keyboard, the alert is typical of a faulty folio keyboard. The electrical connections that pass through the flexible fabric hinges can fracture - this usually resulting in errors and/or the on-screen notification that you see.

A damaged or defective folio keyboard cannot be repaired - only replaced. However, given that the iPad itself has now suffered severe damage as result of being dropped, this is perhaps now a moot point.

Hopefully you have benefit of an active AppleCare+ plan - as, other than a small excess/deductible fee, this will cover the cost of repairing your iPad - and may also extend to your folio keyboard.

Perhaps not obvious to all.

I've lost count of the number of times that OPs decline purchase of the optional AppleCare+ within the available window of opportunity - only then to suffer an accident and complain that it is unfair that they cannot then buy this cover [after the incident] to avoid a large repair cost.

I mentioned AppleCare in part because others looking for help, in similar circumstances to your own, may discover and read this thread - and may derive some help from it.
