Mail is slow and sluggish since updating to iOS 17.4.1

I updated iOS last night on my iPhone to 17.4.1. And now the Mail app just doesn’t work. I try to open an email and it just sits there saying it’s loading forever. After waiting more than a minute, I’ve just given up. Anyone else having this problem? Any fixes?

Updated to iOS 17.4.1 and Apple Mail has basically stopped being a functioning app. Tap a message and it just shows a blank screen and “No Message selected”. File a message and it still shows in the Inbox. Might be lagging but if so these lags are minutes long. No issue with WiFi network. This is all iOS. Infuriating.

Total lack of accountability!!

He told you that after update the mail stopped working. Working before, not working after. From a support/trouble shooting stand point that is where any true tech support would look to...

And advise to check settings and do a backup is laughable.. If settings weren't changed that is not a place to start.

And if critical data is on the cloud, no need for backup. And the suggestion shows a total lack of accountability AND/OR confidence in you product. Get off this site with continued bounce back to the "users fault". Most would no be here unless they have some IT experience.

I’m finding that Mail Privacy Protection was introduced to iOS in September 21. I wasn’t aware of it till poking around trying to solve my own 17.4.1 mail non-functionality / non-sync between iOS devices issues. In my experience, when I DISABLE the Protect Email Privacy setting (and leave the Hide IP Address enabled in the resulting sub-menu) my slowness of Mail and non-sync between iOS devices Mail “read”, “deleted”, etc. statuses are again synchronized. “My problems are fixed.” Possibly others can comment. Possibly Mail Privacy Protection became enabled with the 17.4.1 update…? I’m not aware that I had ever consciously / voluntarily enabled Mail Privacy Protection at any time in the past

Plenty of people reporting the same problem. A few issues with your response though - making it the users problem without any information.

Suggesting a backup before updating is counter to Apple's recommendation to enable automatic updates. The overwhelming smart thing is for people to update automatically and use iCloud backup for their data.

If the only thing changed is an update to the OS, then that's the most likely cause and the first thing to troubleshoot.

ダニエルくん、I noticed the same exact problem with my mail. Unfortunately SeavankさんとGarryさんは全然分かってないね。I did these two things without restarting my iphone 13 max and it returned to instant mail refreshes and no more sluggishness.

1- close out all apps that are open including mail

2- go into settings>mail>message list>preview. Change that setting to Preview 1 line.

3- open mail app and check mail in a couple accounts. It should be fixed and not sluggish anymore

4- go back to mail settings and change your Message List Preview back to whichever you previouly had it (mine was at 4 lines)

5- go back to mail close and open mail and refresh check your mail and send a test email to see if it helps.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
