japan softbank iphone8 upgrade to 12 from another carrier, will the nano sim work?

I am buying a used iphone 12. Called the Softbank English line, and they said "not guaranteed all services will work" with the Softbank nano sim in my current iphone SE 8 when inserted into the used iphone 12 originally bought from a rival carrier. What kind of problems are likely to occur? I read about 5G being a problem, but not sure if I even use that. Will it slow down or freeze the phone?

iPhone SE, iOS 13

This is a very bad idea. If the phone is from a rival cellular carrier, it will be locked to their service. They won't unlock it for you without signing up for their service and it will never work with a different carrier's service.

If by some miracle it does work (but it won't) then -

If the SIM came from an iPhone that didn't have 5G, yes it may not get 5G on your phone. Getting a new SIM chip made with 5G capabilities would fix that.

The SIM chip only carries information about your phone number, it will not slow down of lockup your phone.
