I’ve been trying to make a purchase on my MacBook Pro of a movie on Apple TV, but I keep getting hit with a pop
up saying “this computer is not authorised”. It’s instructing me to authorise in the account menu but where’s the account menu? At a loss currently

It should be there, always. Even on iTunes before it. Are you signed in to the Apple TV app on Mac? If not signed in to the app, the Authorization option may be grayed out. Conceivably, it might be hidden for Apple ID accounts set to a country or country-like region where there is no possible content to authorize. What is your country?
What is your model Mac? What is its version macOS?
