Your iPhone can't automatically send codes back to senders, but here are some smarter ways to handle them:
Focus Mode with Auto-Reply (available on all iPhones):
- Create a Focus Mode named "Work" (or anything you like). This allows you to customize how your phone behaves during work hours.
- Within the Work Focus Mode, enable "Auto-Reply."
- Craft a message like "Busy now, will respond to work codes soon."
- Choose who receives this reply (everyone or just work contacts).
Now, when your Work Focus Mode is on (you can easily turn it on/off), anyone texting you will get your auto-reply. It won't automatically send the code back, but it lets them know you'll handle it later.
Shortcuts App (for iPhones with iOS 13 or later):
This option requires some technical know-how but offers more control. You can create an automation in the Shortcuts app:
- Set it to trigger when you receive a text containing a specific word (like "work code").
- The automation can then extract the code from the message and... (here's the tricky part) perform an action you define. Unfortunately, iPhones don't allow automatic replies with extracted information.
Best Option:
Check with your IT department! They might have a preferred way for you to receive and respond to work codes on your iPhone. They might even have a secure app that can handle this task automatically.
