Enabling read receipts for macOS Mail

Hello

In my quest to fully leverage the macOS Mail app for my professional communications, I'm exploring ways to enable read receipts. Given that macOS Mail doesn't offer built-in support for this feature, I ventured into an alternative approach by using a Terminal command. My aim is to improve my interactions with clients and colleagues by tracking email opens. The command I used is as follows:

"defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders".

Despite my efforts, I've run into a snag—either the command fails to execute properly, or it doesn't activate the read receipt functionality as expected.

I'm reaching out to see if anyone here has navigated through this process successfully with macOS Mail. Could there be a step I'm missing, or is there a particular nuance to making this work? Additionally, I'm open to hearing about any alternative strategies that could help me achieve similar functionality within the Mail app.

What you found on the Internet doesn’t create a “read” receipt. It creates a server request to respond when the email has been pushed to the recipient’s mail account. It has nothing to do with whether the recipient “read” the message.

Many servers ignore that request as it causes excess traffic on their server.

Mail does not respond to read receipts at all. Most email clients that do respond have the option for the user to disable them.

Add to the Sent e-mail to Clients

" Please Acknowledge Receipt of this E-mail "

Personally, if or when I receive an email from anyone or any entity with the Pop Up message " Read Receipt" or anything remotely resembling that.

I cease to do communications with the Sender

It is nobodies business if I read or did not read their email
