“Liquid in Lighting connector” error on iPhone when connected to charger

Hi, I’ve been using this charger for a while now. But yesterday when I plugged it in my IPhone SE 3rd generation it said “Liquid in Lighting connector” but my charger has not been in water before, and it has just been sitting on my bed. When I let it sit for a couple of minutes I plugged it back in but the message didn’t appear again. But today the same thing happened. The messages appeared, I let the charger sit for a while, then the it started charging. I am on IOS 17.3.1. Can I get some info on why this is happening?

This issue is more likely to be that the liquid sensor in your iPhone detected some form of liquid that got into the phone via its Lightning port, not necessarily that the power adapter / charging cable is defective.

As such, you should have the phone examined by an Apple Technician.

If liquid did get inside, even if it evaporates, it could leave behind conductive residue that can further damage your phone. I would strongly recommend that you stop using it. Power it off, and contact Apple Support for additional assistance with this matter. To do so, simply select the "Support" link on the lower left-hand side of this forum's web page.
