Using VPN connection on Mac

In the system settings one can set up a VPN.  Is this a build in Apple feature, or does one need to have a count with a VPN.

The instructions from Apple seem to be not covering this.  Set up a VPN connection on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

I got here as I wanted to get a subscription to Cyber Ghost and saw they not support not support OS14.  Chatting with them the offer trouble shooting tips.  That does not make me happy.

Any insight or tips here?

The built-in VPN configuration is for connecting to a real VPN--something you use to securely connect to an internal LAN from outside the LAN. Cyber Ghost and all the others are not true VPN's. Those companies are just scaring you into pushing all of your internet traffic through their server so they can bundle it all up and sell you off as a complete package instead of collecting random bits of your surfing habits.

Apple's built-in IP Private Relay already obfuscates your IP address to prevent collecting on you.

From your supplied link above

" Contact the network administrator for your organization or your VPN service provider for information about the settings you need to enter in order to connect to their VPN."

This seems straight forwards, it would require a Subscription to a Commercial VPN

Usage or Non Usage of Commercial VPNs is a personal choice

But and yes always a but.

Using a Commercial VPN is not always what it may appear to be.

It may also not do what some think it does.
