How do I select the default audio recording device?

The problem is the following, when recording audio in the Macbook + AirPods pairing, the computer always chooses to record audio exactly through the headphones

I tried changing the sound recording device in the settings via system settings - sound - input, but every time I connect AirPods again, the computer selects them as the sound recording device again.

Question: how can I make the macbook's inbuilt microphones the default device even when headphones are connected? is this possible?
