How to fix "Disk Not Ejected Properly" error on Mac with Western Digital SSD

My Mac will not recognize one of my WD SSD's. It works OK on another Mac, and on a windows machine. It worked for awhile on this Mac, but got a "disk not ejected properly" error and will not recognize the SSD now.

Have you run Disk Utility's Disk First Aid on all connected drives?

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

Why would you think running first aid on working drives would be useful?

There was little chance that it would help, but it doesn't take that long to do, & without knowing ones skill level, without any accusations of lack of knowledge.. I thought it covered the bases for sure without banter back& forth to figure out what we know in common. :)

Open Activity Monitor in Utilities, View>All Processes, sort on Name, see if fsck is running, if so force quit it, see if it then mounts or can be mounted.

I had run Disk Utility which showed the SSD there, by name, but unmounted. The first aid run did not terminate for several minutes, and could not be aborted so I rebooted.

Why would you think running first aid on working drives would be useful? There is only one other external drive connected, a Western Digital rotating disk drive being used as Time Machine.

The SSD worked once on another iMac and then exhibited the same response. It works fine on an old Windows computer, with the same cables, so it's not hardware. The box says compatible with macOS Big Sur, Catalina, or Mojave, but warns of compatibility issues with others!

Its got to be a problem with Ventura.
