Saving Bandwidth With YouTube
When listening to YouTube, is there a way to cut out video to save bandwidth? I am talking of the desktop Mac OS situation.

Do you have internet traffic cap or are you on a very slow connection? Otherwise, there would ne no point in this.
Anyway, I don't think you can turn video off completely, but what you can do is select a lower resolution video, since you care only about listening.
For example, in this video, youtube was defaulting to 720p, but there was an option as low as 144p.

Thank you for clarifying.
I can now see why your concerns about bandwidth usage are justified.
If you are really only interested in audio, at least in some cases, perhaps you can download just the audio and listen to it offline. I believe that some applications, like 4K Video Downloader, can download just the audio, if you give them a link to a youtube page.

FWIW, I could be wrong but apps like 4K Vdieo Downloader and the like only record the audio portion. They can't reduce the size of the stream. Using a lower resolution as mentioned would seem to be the only practical way.
I think you are right. Thank you for pointing that out!
Wait... There exists a youtube music...

The connection speed is just fine for everything that I need but I do bump up against the usage limit on occasion and fear that if I had substituted YouTube for Apple Music, I would go over the limit for sure. Would going to a lower resolution not affect the sound quality? Too bad the video can't be turned off leaving only the sound.
I don't have any interest in downloading audio from YT. I had envisioned using YT as a music source on my desktop Studio Display in the same way that I use Apple Music now. I work at my desktop and Apple Music is on continuously in the background. Ideally, YT would have made a music only app for Mac OS but there isn't one. So the only way to use YT as a music source is via the full enchilada - video + sound - quite wasteful if all you want is the sound. Nevertheless, I do appreciate your input even if there is no ideal solution here.
wha just happened?
Dialabrain posted a link to a browser version of YT Music.
I then replied to his post thanking him telling him that this was a perfect solution for me.
Now the link and my note of thanks have gone missing?
Whom have we offended with this exchange?
Yikes! You are right Dialabrain. Both the link and my response are indeed there. They're up there in the middle of the thread whereas I expected them to be at the bottom - that's why I didn't see them. All is well.

Yes, someone managing these discussions decided that having posts ordered by "Best" makes sense.
You can change it to "Oldest" to restore chronological order.
And you can login, go to your profile and change the preferred order to "Oldest". This way after you login the threads show in chronological order.
You're welcome.
Really ... ... for Mac OS ... ... where do I find it?
Eureka! That is the Holy Grail! Thanks so much - this is perfect for my needs. Not an app like Apple Music but who cares? Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks again.
Not sure what you mean. Your posts are here, and you're welcome. :)
