Upgrade Ventura to Sonoma - Extended Display Not Recognized

I needed to upgrade from the latest Ventura to Sonoma due to an issue that is fixed in Sonoma. Upgrade went fine but the external Samsung monitor is not detected. I have gone through the upgrade of multiple OS's with no issue. I have searched and found to go to Settings, Displays and hold the option key to Detect Displays but no new display shown. I have verified all physical connections and rebooted both MacBook Pro and Samsung monitor to no avail.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Worked with Apple Support this morning and was able to get a fix. As mentioned in my original post, I did troubleshooting but was not able to solve.

Things we did to resolve:

  • Restart Machine in Safe Mode (Hold SHIFT key down during hard reboot)
  • Open SYSTEM SETTINGS
  • Select USERS & GROUPS
  • Add NEW USER
  • Restart system and login with New User Account (for me, this automatically detected the extended display).
  • Restart system again and login with regular account (extended display still working)

Tech indicated something essentially got corrupted in my account when I upgraded from Ventura to Sonoma and the above process is part of the troubleshooting techniques after what I tried didn't work.

Happy to say this was quick and easy and hope it can help someone else that runs into this issue. I have upgraded many major releases and never had this issue but apparently some have had even with earlier releases.
