I can't export my final cut pro project

Start by deleting all render files. Select your library in the browser sidebar, go to

File->Delete Generated Library Files...

and check All Render Files.

Turn off "background render" if you have on in Final Cut Pro->Settings->Playback.

Try again.

If the problem persists, it is likely some bad media in the project.

Try the divide and conquer method.

Set an Out poin about half way through, and export the first half.

Repeat for the other half.

Keep dividing until you find what the problem is.

As Luis said, delete all render files, delete pref files. If those two don't help, I'd go to that Project timeline, Select All, create a new Project and paste it all in there and try again. Be sure nothing in that timeline is selected, and all clips are enabled (V will disable/enable individual clips).

Verify your system drive has at least 15% of its total capacity as free space, this is vital to your operating system.

Try using the Send To Compressor command, see if that makes a difference.

If nothing else, I'd remove FCPX and reinstall it.

Do you have Chrome browser installed, or any virus software or Mac clean-up software?

Is there an error? Does FCP crash? If not, are you sure you don't have a short section accidentally selected when exporting?

What happens if you set and in and out at the end and try to export just the last minute? Is it all black?

You have plenty of disk space, so that is not the issue.

Chrome and especially its background "keystone" processes are known to cause serious problems with video and other professional applications.

It's doubtful that they are causing the present issue, but you should consider uninstalling them - see

it only exported 7 seconds of my 18-minute project.

Is 7 seconds a range you intentionally specified? As terryb says, please clarify whether an error message appears when exporting or not. If you get an error, please show us a screenshot.

You’re saving to the Downloads folder it seems. Can you show in column vote exactly where that Downloads folder is? I’m wondering if it’s in iCloud Drive.
