changing scanned photos .jp2 to jpeg on macbook air

I have scanned numerous family photos and want to make a book for my grandkids.

The scans say the photos are .jp2, (although under "kind" in the folder it says JPEG 2).

I cannot upload.jp2 to the book site!

I have followed online instructions to change photos to JPEG, however the instructions only say for PDF, PNG, PSD and TIFF. The folder "kind" sayss JPEG2 but the photos themselves are still .jp2.

Can anyone help me?

Please, and thank you.

Wow-- that's jpeg 2000, a modification of jpeg done in the late 90s when people saw "2000" as special. (We're alI so over it, now.) I always wondered why it was there! I just generated a jp2 image to test, and I'm surprised, but it seems that Mac's Preview and Photos apps are ignorant of jp2 and can't load it.

A number of us use an app called GraphicConverter ($40) that can convert pictures between a huge number of formats. (That's how I made a jp2 image file to test.) It does lots of other useful things, but $40 seems like a lot if all you want is one set of conversions. You can get a free trial, though, so it might work.

I also tried the Mac app store with "jp2 conversion," and it returned 1 app for $8-- it looked pretty straight forward and easy to use, but then that's what ads are for. There may be others available if you try Google.

Let us know how it goes...
