My Apple Watch Series 6 stopped working after I swam with it

We use the watch to swim. It works fine recording the activity. Then when we finish and dry, the crown will not take it out of water mode.

Tried to reset it but the screen touch will not work at all. After a couple of days in rice and warmth the watch returns to normal functionality.

Any ideas?
