I have the same question as ArtDesign, however I have no external device hooked up. I have music playing in the background, as a study aid, and when I use the speech function for the Mac to read my highlighted selection the voice reading the section is blaring. How do I turn the speech/reading voice down?
For Ventura and Sonoma,
go to Apple > System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > and adjust the Speaking Volume slider.
For Monterey and earlier,
go to Apple > System Preferences > Accessibility > Spoken Content > and adjust the Speaking Volume slider.

1) Turn the main system output volume down to a comfortable level for text to speech.
2) Then turn up the volume slider on Music panel to a comfortable level.
Hmm... try restarting and then revisiting the Spoken Content settings.
I have Somona, fyi, and thanks again for your time den.thed I noticed and played with that setting earlier also but with no luck, it does adjust the speed of Siri (sometimes). Nothing else though not even her volume. Maybe mine is overworked lol.
Thank you for the advice den.thed, however those are work-arounds. I'm looking for a setting or direct control, if there is one.
