Please take a look at the attached image. There is a small orange dot at top right corner of my screen (to the right of the time). I tried taking a screenshot but the dot did not show up (odd?). So I had to take a picture of the screen with my phone. Can anyone tell me what this orange dot means?

It means your microphone was in use.
That means your microphone is being used. This an example of privacy indicators.

It WAS in use at the time that screenshot was taken, which would make sense as you appear to have accessed Siri.
Nevermind. I turned off Siri, the dot as there, so I restarted and the dot is gone. Thanks for your help.
In the example shown in the Privacy Indicators link, Control Panel shows you what is using the microphone. In my Control Panel, it doesn't show anything. I also looked in settings and nothing that is running is using the microphone.

There are other things than Siri that can be using the microphone. For example, dictation, Facetime, a video recording app.

My mistake. If it was actively using your microphone, there would be a large orange microphone icon.
