Can I use an old MacBook Air as an external display for my M2 Mac Studio?

Can I just hook my new Mac Studio (M2 Max | running Sonoma 14.4.1) to my old (mid 2013) Mac Book Air (running Big Sur 11.7.10) to use the old MacBook as an external display for the Mac Studio?

I was thinking that maybe hooking them up via a cable that would convert the old Thunderbolt port on my MacBook Air --> new Thunderbolt for my Mac Studio...

Is this a good route to hook them up properly?

TIA!

No.

Macs in general have no inputs capable of full motion video. The data speeds are so high, you would need a purpose-built device to handle those input speeds. Luckily, you likely have such a device nearby. it is your TV set with HDMI input.

Once you get that set up you can use Mac screen sharing across your home network to share screens at MUCH lower than full motion Video speeds, if desired.

No. The only Macs that supported Target Display Mode were some iMacs made between 2009 and mid-2014.

Your MacBook Air doesn't support Target Display Mode, your Mac Studio doesn't support using ANY Mac as a Target Display, and your MacBook Air is too old to act as an AirPlay Receiver for AirPlay to Mac.
