Endnote won't work after updating to macOS Sonoma 14.4.1

Hey,

i have a Problem regarding the communication between word and endnote.

I was using endnote 20 on a MacbookPro with M1pro chip. Since the Mac Update to 14.4.1 my endnote tools in word are greyed out and I cannot insert or edit any citations from my enlibrary. In Endnote I cannot see wich citations I already inserted in my document.

Before that everything worked fine using both programs in Rosetta mode. I updated to endnote 21.2 but nothing changed.

I have a students license for both products through my university.

Is there any solution to the problem? I'm kind of sure it's because of the Mac Update, because right before the Update everything worked fine.

I have already contacted Endnote, but apart from the usual solutions for this problem of running the apps in Rosetta mode and changing the automation settings in the privacy settings, no solution has yet been suggested.

I have tried both solutions with Endnote 20 (which I used before the Sonoma update without any problems) and with the current Endnote 21.2 version. Unfortunately without success.

thanks for your help!

I deinstalled both Endnote and word and now the communication is working again.

As a note: I deinstalled both Endnote 20 and 21 and only downloaded Endnote 21 after that.

I'm running both programs in rosetta modus as I did before.

So I don’t know exactly how I did it, or what the exact problem was, but everything is working fine now.

Fingers crossed...

EndNote 21.2 was released in Oct 2023. That was just after the initial Sonoma release and it is the EndNote vendor's responsibility to keep their product compatible with evolving macOS Sonoma updates. Nothing anyone here can do about this lethargic vendor compatibility issue. Keep checking for Updates in your EndNote Help menu…
