Cannot stop Music from autostarting

Annoyingly Music starts automatically when a music file is selected.

There is no apparent way to stop the behavior.

So I tried to remove the application many different ways including

 su: rm -rf /Applications/Music.app

without results.

How to stop this annoying behavior???

 MacBook Air

mac os 14.4.1 (23E224)

For one, the application Music is Built Into the operating system

The operating system resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications and thereby can not be removed as hard as one may attempted to do so.

Choose a Different Application to open the music file

In the example below is an image files in .png format

Using the Command I ( eye not L )

Open with and choose a different application to associate the music file

A file being selected (presumably in the Finder) does NOT launch an application (being that Music or any other).

If you double-click it, yes, it will open whatever application is the default for that type of file.

You can, if you so desire, associate a different application to, say, an mp3 file, instead of Music.app

What you cannot do is remove Music.app, or any of the applications that ship as part of macOS.

Just don't use them.

Thanks, very useful, Music is built in the
os - I did not know

but I do NOT want to open anything, not another application.

I guess I will have to develop a do_nothing.app

If we might make another suggestion

Do choose carefully to Who one is replying To.

Reason for mention this is because there are two different contributors appearing in this question and trying to offer help

As it stands right now, neither of use are sure to Whom your above reply is intended.

As for creating a " develop a do_nothing.app " good luck with that effort
