Strange Apple ID verification request

Today I've got very strange Apple ID verification request by entering password on my iPhone. Email address in the verification request removed long time ago and it's not assigned to my Apple ID. It looks like I'm not the first user that claims the same issue today. Is this a hacking attempt?

Was the address for a different Apple ID account? Did you download any apps using that address that are still on your phone? Any apps will always be associated with the account they were downloaded with.
