Recents Folder Not Populating on MacBook Pro

I have a user whose Recents Folder on the MacBook is no longer populating with recently opened items. It was working fine until about a week ago but is now completely empty. We've attempted to resolve the issue by removing Recents from the sidebar and adding it back, as well as rebuilding the spotlight by adding and removing the Macintosh Drive from Spotlight Privacy. Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Verify your setting have not changed / or toggle some change and come back to your preferred settings in an effort to jump start...

>System Settings>Control Center>Number of Recent Items

if no resolve—

A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt...

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
