iPhone 15 Pro overheating when using maps. Very unsafe for driver focus

Doing a road trip in mild weather air-conditioned car. This phone is on the latest software as of 4/3/24. I had the phone on the magnetic charger and screen goes blank with overheat warning.

I tried direct plugging it into the charger. No Map display

Getting the phone in a dark spot in front of air vent. No Map display

No charger used. No map display

Took off case. No map display

Killed all unused apps. No map display

In all my past iPhones this has never been a problem. Having to keep tapping the screen and doing Face ID. This overheating issue turns this iPhone into a driving hazard by being a driving distraction. I guess I need an old iPhone to use maps with.

So has Apple got a fix for this or is this how it is with the iPhone 15 Pro from now on? Do I just use my Pixel instead for driving? It is just not usable for guidance on a road trip.
