Organizing Apps on iPad or iPhone

Use to be that I could connect my iPhone or iPad to my MacBook Pro and arrange my apps that were on my iPad or iPhone per page all with ease on my MacBook. Now I cannot find a good to do this other than the tedious "jiggle mode" on my device itself which take FOREVER and God forbid I download apps on my iPhone and don't use my iPad forever cause then I pick up my iPad and its so disorganized I can't handle it nor do I have the time time manage them single apps and drag them all around.
