replacement question

my mother just asked for a replacement phone and i was curious whether it’s normal for the phone to completely reset and have everything erased? or is this something that shouldn’t happen? as her phone is now back to the zero aka nothing is on and she now got everything gone, is this normal after asking for a replacement?

What’s the context of the replacement? A new or replacement iPhone from Apple or a reseller will arrive with nothing past iOS installed, ready to set up, or ready to transfer contents from a previous iPhone or iPad.

Usual would be migrating from the previous iPhone.


If that iPhone was erased or is no longer available, were you keeping backups, either iCloud, or on a Mac or PC?


If so, you can restore those to the nee device.

Even if you don't have a backup, if you were using iCloud to sync things then those things should reappear on the new phone when you set it up and sign into iCloud.
