Are there any 3rd party email apps you'd recommend that work on Mac and iOS?

I am having trouble adding accounts to third party e mail apps for my Mac. Wanted to try some other mail maps so I’ve tried spark mail but could not add my AOL ( formerly Verizon) e mail even after following the help from them. My gmail was added fine. Also tried mail spring and also could not add. So first any 3 rd party apps recommend that work on Mac and iOS. Second any idea why can’t add my AOL. I’ve checked server info and my password.

If you have a Verizon email address (xyz@verizon.net) at AOL you have to set up the account manually. You will also probably need an app password from AOL; sign into your VZ/AOL account via your web browser and follow the settings to create an app password.

Regarding email apps, have you considered Thunderbird or Outlook?

So got the password from AOL account. It works for airmail app im trying but spark mail still gives me error. Im looking for an app can use on all my devices from phone to ipad to Mac mini. I used thunderbird years ago when had a windows computer. Airmail appears to be subscription based although get basic stuff on my iPhone the one for Mac keeps asking me to buy pro version.
