A guy was having this issue with his PC laptop . . . well I'm having his problem with my M1 MacBook Air. Is it possible to connect my MacBook to my mid-2011 iMac 27", with the supported Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, with Thunderbolt 2 cable as well?
Please advise what you are attempting to achieve by connecting the 2 computers together??? If your intention is to use the display on the 27" for your MacBook then the answer is nope, won't work. Target Display Mode has been dead for many many many years.

That iMac has Thunderbolt 1 – not Thunderbolt 2. The Thunderbolt 1 ports can double as Mini DisplayPorts for output to a single monitor with a resolution of up to 2560x1600 pixels.
That iMac can't accept plain Mini DisplayPort input, but it does support Target Display Mode using Thunderbolt input. So what's the problem?
Your M1 MacBook Air doesn't support using ANY iMac as a Target Display. Apple added restrictions on the video source so that it has to be a Mac released in 2019 or earlier, running Catalina or earlier. Your M1 MacBook Air and all other Apple Silicon Macs are too new on both counts.
