Problem: I've lost the ability to adjust accessibility options - my screen contrast is really off, as well as colours

Hi. I'm hoping someone can offer some troubleshooting guidance.

For some reason. I've lost my ability to adjust my Macbook Air's contrast via the accessibility menu. I previously was able to adjust but I'm not sure why none of the adjustment options are not clickable. The contrast and colours on my Macbook Air are really off.

What am I missing? Have I selected something that is preventing my accessibility menu to function? Is there another way to adjust my screen contrast and colours?

Screen shots attached.

Thanks for your help.

Try and set the appearance to automatic to see if the issues persist

If they persist: see if there is an external piece of software involved, boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist. If they don't persist in the safe mode, it is caused by an external piece of software

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
