Can you mute one person on a group chat?

I have an annoying friend but I don’t want to fully cut them off by blocking them and I want to get notified can I mute the one person without blocking them or muting the whole group?

Can't leave a group chat! If you are in a group chat w/ 3 or more people and 1 or more are non iPhone users you are stuck in that chat for eternity. I have contacted apple numerous times. Want to leave a group conversation but do not see the option I want to leave a group conversation and click on the group but do not have the option to opt out of the conversation. How would I opt out, why don't I have the option?
