fan not working on MacBook Pro?

Is there an easy way to find out? The other day, the laptop was hot to my legs, and I couldn't feel any air moving nor any fan noise.

...the laptop was hot to my legs,...

Using it in your lap without a lap board could be the issue. The cool air intakes on 14-inch and larger Macbook Pros are locate on the lower edge of the right and left sides of the case:

Heated air is exhausted through the hinge area. None of these areas can be blocked if the computer is to maintain proper temperatures. Please see:

I have had some instances in which the trackpad did not respond to me clicking on it.

Make sure you battery is not swelling. Symptoms:

    • Unexpected trackpad and/or keyboard behavior.
    • The gap between the display and the deck is uneven when the display is closed.
    • The gap between the bottom plate and chassis is uneven in places.
    • Some of the screws that hold the bottom plate have popped out.
    • The trackpad surface is higher than the surrounding deck surface.

I was able to test it with Command-D on startup. The fans (two of them) seem to work fine as they both sound like a hair dryer.

So, not sure why the bottom of the laptop got fairly warm the other day.

The diagnostic gave me a "There may be an issue with the Trackpad." I have had some instances in which the trackpad did not respond to me clicking on it.
