I am unable to sync my iPhone 11 Pro Max with Image Capture

I am trying to sync my iPhone with Image Capture, and I have encountered these problems.

The iPhone is indicated as a Device, but it is 'Greyed Out'. It is shown as Locked, despite my having the iPhone available for use.

When my iPhone is selected, the 'Images' shown are indicated as coming from the 'Cloud'

Why is Image Capture not connecting directly to my iPhone?

The iPhone is model 11 Pro Max, the iOS is Version 17.4.1

Has anyone else suffered from this dilemma?
