I am unable to get my MacBook Pro started

The prompt says (Choose Startup Disk): Select the system you want to use to start up your computer.

Macintosh HD

Encrypted Disk

This disk is encrypted. It must be unlocked to determine if it is a valid startup disk. Unlock

I click Unlock and type in the passcode

The prompt changes to ...

You have selected macOS 13.4 on the disk "Macintosh HD". Restart

Once I proceed to restart another prompt states "Are you sure you want to restart the computer?"

"Your computer will start up using "Macintosh HD"

I engage with the Restart. The computer restarts but I'm back at step 1 with the Startup Disk.

***I'm using an external screen due to the MAC screen not displaying but I see the backlight.

What is the exact model of your laptop? You can get this information by entering the system serial on the check coverage page here:

Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

You should try running Disk Utility First Aid on the hidden Container while booted into Recovery Mode (Command + R) or Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R). Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the hidden container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if First Aid says everything is "Ok", click "Show Details" and scroll back through the report to see if any unfixed errors are listed. If there are errors, then run First Aid again until the errors go away.

Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if any hardware issues are detected.
