How does iCloud work on an iPhone 15 Plus?

As you can see from the title, I’m a new person to this whole iCloud stuff. I mostly use Google One to save my data.

I want to fully convert to iCloud, but there’s a catch:

I have lots and I mean lots of data in my Google One. That includes 200 GB of photos and 10 GB of documents. The only services from Google that don't take much a lot of space are Gmail and Chrome.

as I read throughout various discussion pages, I can tell that iCloud is only syncing service and doesn’t give you a cloud storage for your own photos, documents and what have you. That’s a problem.

So the question is, if I were to have a 1TB of iCloud+ storage plan to save that 210+ GB in it and my iPhone storage is only 128 GB. Will this not work because my phone does not have the necessary amount of space? do I have to buy myself a 512 GB iPhone next time just for this? If yes, sticking with Google One should be my only solution

Yes, all data will be synced to all of your devices, which will take up space on those devices, and you will at some point run out of free space on your iPhone, if the optimised size of the photos does not help anymore to save space on your iPhone.

...

When Optimize Storage is turned on, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud, and, when needed, space-saving copies are stored on your device. And as long as you have enough space in iCloud, you can store as many photos and videos as you want.

iCloud Photos will your photos across all your devices in sync.

But, if you modify or delete photos, they will also be deleted in iCloud Photos.

iCloud Photos is not meant to back up your photos.

Have a look at this related article:

You can reduce the size of your photos on your iPhone by choosing to "optimise" photos. This will save a small preview on the phone, if you want to see the photo in the original quality, the iPhone will download it directly from iCloud.

Simply put, Yes, you will run out of space on the iPhone.

The photo is stored on the phone AND in the cloud. There is an "optimize" feature that stores a smaller (lower resolution?) optimized image on the phone with the full quality image in the cloud. Still, the optimized images take up space on the phone and if you have enough of them, you will run out of space on the phone.

I hope this answer is clear enough for your decision.

I understand clearly sir/mam. I do know for a fact that it is not kind of a service that lets you keep your photos in a sort of website or an app like Google Photos and actually acts as a syncing service to see your photos across all Apple devices. My point, my dear friend, was… let’s say I exceeded the limit of my phone storage. I have an iPhone 15 Plus, as the discussion states. It comes with a storage of 128GB. If I uploaded the 200GB pictures on my personal iCloud account through my MacBook. Will my phone’s storage capacity be taken into consideration too? Will my phone get filled up with the pictures I uploaded on my MacBook until it tells me there is no more space for me to have more pictures or download apps? Please, do let me know.

Thank you.
