Sync Google Drive folder to external disk

I understand that this topic may seem more like a Google Drive issue than a Mac issue, but please bear with me and continue reading.

I'm using the Google Drive desktop app and I'm having some issues. I have a 1 TB disk on my computer with about 200 GB of free space. I am working with large files on Google Drive, and it is difficult to sync them from my computer to Google Drive when I don't have a lot of space. I would have to upload them through the browser, but that takes time and usually fails.

I recently purchased an additional 8 TB disk for my Mac Pro, and I would like Google Drive to be located on that disk, not my startup disk (1 TB), as it would only allow me to have a maximum of 200 GB of space offline. Every time I login or install the Drive Desktop app, it won't let me choose where I would like my offline files to be synced. It always chooses the 1 TB disk, and I don't want that.

How can I change this so that Google Drive will sync files to my new 8 TB disk instead of my small 1 TB disk? I dont want my files to be mirrored, I would like to be able to choose what files are online and offline.

When I open the preferences in Google Drive, I encounter an issue. The option to select a location, specifically the "Google Drive streaming location," is inaccessible as the change button is greyed out. There is a message below stating that the folder location is controlled by macOS. This raises the question of whether the OS is preventing me from making this change due to certain restrictions imposed by macOS
