I have recently purchased a MacBook Air with an M2 chip. It requires a password to enter the screen. This is not a problem other than the hassle particularly when you just close the screen and have to re enter it on opening. This has probably occurred because I used Migration Assistant to transfer stuff from my old M1. Can someone tell me what I should do to remove this pass word please or tell me what I did to remove it from my M1 because cannot remember!
ok. then maybe try System Settings > Lock Screen, and set "Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off" to never.
you can use System Settings > Users & Groups and set "Automatically log in as" to the account you want to use.
ok. those are the only two places that I know of that will change that behaviour. if both "automatically login" is set to your user account and "require password" is set to never, you might have found a bug.

I am afraid that did not work for me. I can follow you instruction as you have laid them out above. Close down (i.e. shut down), open up same thing, requires me to enter my 6 word password!
Sorry, tried changing to "Never", that did work either!
