How do you share a WiFi connection via Personal Hotspot?

Is it possible to share a Wi-Fi connection over iPhone's Personal Hotspot, or is it limited to cellular data only?

My experience is the same as this question from 2022. It does not appear you can do so, but I am now in 2024 on iOS 17.4 and an iPhone 15 Pro.

On 6 Android phones at least the past eight years I have been able to share Wi-Fi via a hotspot on those devices, which shares the Wi-Fi you're connected.

iOS does not seem to support this functionality at all. I am forced to share my LTE or 5G data only.

This is inconvenient for say, quickly creating a hotspot for a device to use in a hotel or on vacation where a dedicated Wi-Fi connection has limitations on connection methods.

No. The Personal hotspot allows you to share your phone’s cellular data connection.

Why in the world would you need to share a WiFi connection. If there is WiFi for your phone to connect to, then your other devices should be able to connect to it as well.

If it’s some kind of paid service that restricts you to one connected device, they do that for a reason. Talk to the owner of the network if that creates a problem for you.
