Outgoing Mail server not specified

I'm running Sonoma 14.4.1 on a Mac mini.

  1. When I try to send mail, I get a message saying "This message could not be sent because your account does not have a preferred outgoing mail server. Select an outgoing mail server from the list below." I choose iCloud, the only one listed, but it doesn't fix it.

Thanks for any advice.

If you are able to assign "iCloud" as your Outgoing Mail Account in the Apple Mail app, then that setting would be correct.

Try running the Connection Doctor to see if it can uncover the reason your Mac is not able to send emails.

To access the Connection Doctor, run the Mail app. From the app's menu bar, select Window > Connection Doctor.

It also may be possible that your local network router or your ISP is blocking the SMTP protocol which is required to send email messages.
