I am unable to update Macbook with "Authentication Disabled" message

Whenever I'm trying to add my administrator password to unlock my Mac to update it I get an "Authentication Disabled" message. Any forum fixes also require my admin ID and the same error message comes up. My IT department at work tells me I have to wipe the Mac and start over but there has to be an easier way. Can someone help please?

The IT administrator at my job has access. What to do then?

The IT Department at your Job may have Enrolled this computer in a Mobile Digital Management ( MDM ) service like Jamf or some other similar service.

To check if this is >> System Setting >> Profiles

What is listed on this computer ?

If the Computer Serial Number has been registered with a MDM Service

It is possible they have Locked you Out from performing the updates until they have Tested the update to Their Satisfaction.

Care to comment ?

This seems to imply otherwise

You can have a Admin Account on the computer and still be blocked from Updating the computer if the MDM is configured to Stop the " Authentication " process.
