Photos not syncing from Mac to iCloud

I'm trying to Sync photos from my iMac (2019 iMac running 14.4.1) to iCloud. In Settings on iCloud page Photos is ON, and "Sync this Mac" is also on (switch is blue). I have plenty of free space in iCloud (~1.5TB). I do have almost 50,000 photos to upload, but when I go to iCloud.com, login and go to photos, the number of photos shown is not changing. Should it?

On Photos Settings, under iCloud tab, I have iCloud Photos checked, and also have "Download originals" checked.

I do have another Mac also linked to iCloud.

Leave it plugged in and walk away. There is no published limit for iCloud sync but back in the day it used to be 1,000/hour, 10,000/day, 25,000/month. The initial sync of a large library may take a couple of days.

Open Photos

Navigate to Photos > Settings > icloud

Ensure icloud sync is enabled

You can check your upload status in Photos. Open the library, scroll to the bottom.

Performing an initial sync may take a number of days. Sync will happen when your device is powered and locked.

I got it going and it uploaded about 10.000 photos, but then it stopped, and I can't get it started again.

Suggestions?

Also, you wrote, "Sync will happen when your device is powered and locked." What do you mean by "locked"?
