Unable to get Touch ID work on my MacBook Air

Cannot get Touch ID to work do I need to turn off fire vault?

If file vault is turned on then you need your password to unlock the disk, after that if you have set it up anything else that would require your password can be done with Touch ID.

You cannot unlock FileVault with Touch ID. First, enter your FileVault password, after that you can use Touch ID
