International warranty for Apple Watch GPS + Cellular

Hello. It's not clear for me in the case of purchasing an Apple Watch series 9 on Amazon US and using it in Europe, I can benefit of warranty anywhere in Europe or not. GPS plus Cellular means you can use the watch even when the phone is not around, right? So the cellular component should not impact the warranty.

Thank you.

Apple does not have an international warranty. The warranty is country specific (EU counts as 1 country). If you purchase in country A, and want service in country B, the warranty will not apply.

The EU has a VAT tax that is added to the base price.

Some countries require a 2 year warranty, that adds to the base price.

Some countries add an import duty, that adds to the base price.

Some countries add a sales tax at the point of sale that makes the initial price look good until you get your credit card out.

The value of currency exchange affects the prices charged.

The corporate taxes countries charge on profits affects what the company charges.

I’m sure Apple would charge the same price world wide if the if all things were equal. But alas they are not.

Well if it does not break, you win.

NOTE: The U.S. Series 9 and Ultra II DO NOT. Have oxygen sensor enabled, and it cannot be enabled until the legal dispute is resolved in favor of Apple. Using the Apple Watch in another country will not change the U.S. model number.

Do we know for certain that updates/upgrades are based on the watch model number or is it based on the download location?

Folks who bought Watches with a certain function active in the country of purchase and then later took them to a country where the function was outlawed, (Saudi Arabia) found the function disabled with the first update/upgrade in that country.

Apple gave the U.S. Series 9 and Ultra II unique model numbers. The ITC required that those Apple Watches imported to the U.S. must have the oxygen sensor disabled.

As it is the suing company was not happy that you could jail break the Apple Watch and enable the function but the ITC approved the software block.

If Apple allowed a watch first imported to the U.S. to now fully function, it would create legal issues for Apple and make it difficult for Apple to get a favorable ruling to legally re-enable the oxygen sensor.

Things like ECG have sometimes been location dependent, but that is just not approved, vs an actual prohibition by the country, such as some countries that ban FaceTime. As far as I know, if you get an Apple Watch that bans FaceTime, it does not magically work when you leave the country where it was purchased.
