iPhone Battery Percentage Display Too Small

On my tiny iPhone[s] 4, 5 and 5s, the batter percentage display in the top right corner was perfectly legible. On my newish and much larger iPhone 10XR (using iOS 17.4.1], i can barely read it, I suppose because Apple is trying to save space by putting the number inside the battery graphic. On the old iPhones, the number was beside the battery graphic. How can I make it more legible?

Unless I use a magnifying glass and extra light, I can't tell the difference for example between a 5 and a 6. On the old iPhones, I can read the numbers very clearly even in bad light at arm's length.
