So I forgot my screen time passcode. No problem. I clicked on the forgot password bit and entered my iCloud and passcode. All good. But then the new screen time passcode screen appears and the keyboard is gone. Just a gray space filling in for it. How do I solve this? I’ve got a first generation iPad Pro. The hardware is busted but the no software bugs im aware of.

Assuming that the iPad's physical buttons are still working normally (as otherwise you'll not be able to perform recovery steps), try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:
Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)
If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:
Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)
Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
